Modern Backyard Office Bunkie Crane Install

This 8’ x 12’ Modern Bunkie was delivered to a backyard in Edmonton and transformed into a turnkey office space for a local business owner. Designed for quiet focus just steps from home, this build included upgraded Pro-Lock siding, a mini split for year-round comfort, and outlet placements customized for the client’s exact setup—including a TV, desk, and couch.

How It Started

The client reached out looking for a clean, well-built solution to a common problem—finding space to work from home without being stuck inside the house all day. He runs a growing glassware business and needed a quiet place to focus, take calls, and do the behind-the-scenes work—without dealing with a long or messy build process.

The key for him was something ready to go, but also removable if things ever changed. A small stick-built structure didn’t make sense, and a prefab bunkie with solid materials and easy delivery checked all the boxes.

The Build

We worked with him to lay out the space exactly how he imagined it—he even sent over sketches of where he wanted his desk, couch, and TV. From there, we dialed in the electrical placement to match his workflow and outfitted the unit with a mini split so it would be comfortable year-round.

The Pro-Lock metal siding gave it a sharp, durable finish outside, and inside, the warm pine tongue-and-groove created a cozy, functional space that feels good to be in.

It’s always interesting to see how much can actually fit in these 8’ x 12’ units once they’re styled and lived in. What we thought might feel cramped ended up being a perfectly dialed-in workspace.

The Installation

Originally, we explored backing the trailer down the side of the house over the grass—but it became clear that tearing up the lawn or dismantling the fence wasn’t worth it. After some back-and-forth, we landed on a simpler solution: crane it in.

The client had prepped a concrete pad for a solid base, and on install day, everything lined up. The crane lifted the bunkie clean over the fence and onto the pad in one smooth move.

No yard damage. No headaches. Just a perfectly placed backyard office, ready to plug in and go.
