Peak Cabin Backyard Office & Guest Space

This 11.5’ x 27’ Peak Cabin landed in a quiet backyard setting just outside Mission, BC—set up as a dedicated workspace and overflow guest area for a homeowner who’s been working remotely more often. Designed with large windows, a covered patio, and all-season comfort, the cabin was craned into place with tight access and perfect timing.

How It Started

The client reached out looking for a space that could give him a bit of separation from his main home—somewhere to work, focus, and host friends or family when they came to visit. With more remote work in his schedule, he wanted something that was easy to heat, comfortable year-round, and didn’t require building from scratch on-site.

He was also concerned about access. The driveway only went part of the way in, and the final stretch—including the main turn-in—was on lawn. He needed a solution that was compact, functional, and could be delivered and installed with minimal disruption.

The Build

We settled on the Peak Cabin model with a covered patio and lots of windows to keep it feeling bright and open year-round. The bathroom was fully finished, while the kitchen was left roughed-in so the client could install his own setup afterward.

We added a mini split unit to handle heating and cooling through all four seasons, and planned the electrical layout to fit the way he wanted to use the space. He sent over a basic layout showing where he planned to place his desk, mount a TV, and add a small couch—so we built around that from the start.

The result is a clean, open space that works as both a home office and a guest cabin—comfortable, private, and easy to use year-round.

The Installation

This site came with a few challenges.

The driveway only extended partway onto the property, and the final approach and turn-in were across grass—a concern if the weather turned wet. Fortunately, we had dry conditions and made the trip over the Coquihalla without issue.

We arrived the night before and staged for lift early the next morning. The turn onto the lawn was tighter than expected, so we took a cautious approach. The crane was brought in and staged behind the trailer, and from there, we lifted the entire unit—still on the trailer—around the corner.

It was a clean setup that allowed us to avoid tight turns and yard damage.

Once on-site, everything came together easily.

The concrete piers were perfectly aligned, and the lift went smoothly. After securing the cabin, we tidied up and were able to drive the trailer out without issue now that the unit was offloaded. We were wrapped up and off-site by 11 a.m.

This cabin gave the client exactly what he needed—an intentional, well-built space away from the house that doesn’t feel like an afterthought. Whether it’s for deep focus during the week or hosting guests over the holidays, it fits right into the rhythm of the property.
